When Marcus stepped off the train at Inverness in 2022, he had a rucksack, a laptop and £40 in his pocket.
Today he owns eleven cottages across the west coast, all let short-term, with what he describes as “a six-figure annualised position”.
He now teaches the method in a free ninety-minute webinar.
The system
Marcus is emphatic that there is no secret. The approach, he says, comes down to four things: identify undervalued stock in emerging climate-secure markets, move quickly, structure correctly, and “have the conviction to act while others are still researching”.
He advises beginners to start with a single property, refinance against the increased value, and use the release to acquire the second. Repeat, he says, is the whole of it.
“Everybody told me the market was closed. The market is never closed. It is closed to people who are waiting for it to open.”

The first purchase
Property one was a two-bedroom cottage acquired in late 2022 for £131,000.
The deposit was £39,300, which Marcus attributes to “modest family assistance and an absolute refusal to spend money on things that do not compound”. He mentions that he did not take a holiday for two years.
He has been asked about the £40 figure and has clarified that it refers to the cash in his pocket on the day he arrived, which he maintains is a fair way to describe it.
