Man spotted walking down the same path twice in one day

He went down at approximately 10:20 and again shortly after two. Nobody has established why. Several theories are in circulation and one of them is wrong.

A man was observed walking down the shore path on Tuesday morning and again on Tuesday afternoon.

The first sighting was at approximately 10:20 by Mrs Baird, who was at her window and is confident about the time because the kettle had just gone. The second was at 14:05 or thereabouts, from the same window.

He was wearing the same jacket on both occasions.

The theories

Three explanations are currently in circulation.

The first is that he forgot something and went back for it, which is the view of the shop and is considered sensible if unexciting.

The second is that he did not know it was the same path, the two ends being approached from different directions, which is more common than people think and has happened to a member of the community council.

The third theory concerns the box.

“He had nothing at ten in the morning. At two he was carrying a large cardboard box. I am not saying anything by that. I am saying it is a fact and somebody should write it down.”

Mrs Baird

Further information

The man is not thought to be local. He was polite to Mr Fenwick at the gate and made a remark about the weather that Mr Fenwick describes as “correct but not from here”.

He has not been seen since. The box has not been seen at all.

Anyone with information is asked to mention it at the shop.
