Village has a website. Nobody has the password

It has been online since 2011 and is still advertising a ceilidh held in May 2012. Four people have tried the obvious password. It was not the obvious one.

The village website remains online and remains, in every respect, as it was in 2012.

The homepage advertises a ceilidh on Saturday 12 May, with tickets available from the shop. The shop has confirmed it does not have any.

The situation

The site was built in 2011 by a man who has since moved to Perth. The hosting is paid annually by direct debit from an account nobody has been able to identify, in the amount of £4.99.

Nobody has the password.

Four people have attempted what one described as “the obvious one”, which is the village name followed by a number. It was not that. It was also not the postcode, the year of the hall’s construction, or the name of the man’s dog, which was tried by three separate people independently.

“It says the ceilidh is on Saturday. It has said that for fourteen years. Every so often somebody arrives for it.”

A member of the community council

Progress

Somebody has his brother’s number. The brother has been asked and has said he will ask him.

That was in March.

The community council has agreed in principle to set up a new site, and has agreed in principle to this on three previous occasions, most recently in 2019.

The ceilidh, for the avoidance of doubt, was very good.
