The relief vet’s car, which had been parked outside the hall since Tuesday of the previous week, left on Saturday morning.
The space is now empty. This has been mentioned by at least six people, one of whom said the hall looks bare, which it does not, having looked exactly like that for the preceding forty years.
The suggestion
Two residents have said the village should have its own vet.
It cannot. The practice covers an area of roughly 900 square miles from a base an hour and ten minutes away, has been advertising a second full-time post since February, and has had two applicants, one of whom withdrew after looking at what was available to rent.
Everyone raising the suggestion knows all of this. It was raised anyway, in the way that things are.
“She was here nine days and she stopped for the ram, the two collies and Mrs Kerr’s cat that is not ill. It is a shame, that is all anybody means by it.”

Further
She has said she will take the relief cover again in the spring if it is offered.
Mr Fenwick, who tried her car doors and was seen by four people, has asked this newspaper to record that he was checking whether anybody was inside it.
That has now been recorded twice.
